Doyle “Sox” Robinson

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Doyle spent 3 1/2 years doing outreach (handing out socks and got his street name Sox because of that) on the 16th Street Mall before opening Sox Place along with his son Jordan in May 2002. He’s still on course to bring the Father’s heart to the fatherless.

What’s a typical day like for you?

He is married and has one child, a son. He has oversight of all operations of Sox Place, including Sox Place Screen Printing.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Making sure the space is ready for everyone to relax in, cook or heat up food for everyone, lead volunteers if there are any, and deal with any admin stuff needed. Once we are open, trying to connect with the people here while making sure everyone is safe and no conflicts arise. Providing and working through any needs the kids have during the day.

Karen Robinson

Staff

Name three words that describe you:
Driven, Compassionate, Loyal

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?
Making candles, hanging out with family, reading, gardening

What are the values that drive you?
The basis for everything I do is my faith.  My foundation has been my faith since I fully surrendered my life to Christ when I was 17.

How did you learn of Sox Place?
My family started Sox Place.  It was most definitely a family endeavor.

Karen has been a part of Sox Place from the beginning, known as “Mrs Sox” by many of the street kids. She worked full-time for Nicky Cruz for 17 years as his Executive Ass’t. She commuted to Colorado Springs for this position until July 2017. She officially came on staff at Sox Place that same month.

What’s a typical day like for you?
My day is basically spent assisting with the administrative duties involving Sox Place.  There are many things that can and do arise that are not typical from one day to the next.  If someone comes into Sox Place and needs some winter boots and we don’t have any, I would go and buy a pair (this is just one example, because each day at Sox Place is different).

Kaili “Blue” Bunn

Staff

Kaili is our newest staff member and has been with Sox Place as intern staff, part-time, and now she is full time. She is in charge of clothing donations and clothing room, distributing clothing to the street youth as well as other duties such as cleaning and cooking. She has two beautiful children and has a passion to help those less fortunate.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Cleaning the clothing room, restocking the clothing room, organizing the hygiene room if need be, serving the kids of Sox place, making plates of food, dishes and cleaning the kitchen.

Name three words that describe you:
Positive, loyal, and happy

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?
Spending time with my kids going to the mountains and walking my dogs

What are the values that drive you?
Loyalty, dedication and Motherhood.

How did you learn of Sox Place?
I was 12 and a street kid on the streets talk so someone mentioned Sox place to me and brought me here and I’ve never left.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Most days I turn the lights on if I get there first I make sure the oven is preheated and begin prepping food. But there are a number of duties so every day is a little different. I find myself organizing anything from food donations to clothing to hygiene.

But it’s not like I do everything myself, we all help each other as a family. Helping others in time of need is a task and an honor. I’ve met a few people in bad situations that have turned their life around and are doing amazing, and there are those who are still trying to find themselves and find there way. Sox Place is a place of love, healing, and choice.

With a simple set of rules, no drugs/no drama, and drama pertains to a few things involving violence or inappropriate behavior. If any drama or drug use were to occur I or Jordan would attempt to handle the situation peacefully and give understanding.

Very rarely does drama occur though, the street kids have a lot of respect for Sox Place. I can write a book one a day about Sox Place

Name three words that describe you:
Heart, Goku, Healing

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?
Its me and Goku either on a mission somewhere. My hobbies include longboarding, paintball, fishing…I can go on but trying to make this short and sweet.

What are the values that drive you?
Love, Honor, Bravery, Determination

How did you learn of Sox Place?
Well, when I was in a bad time I believe GOD guided me to its doors. My heart recognized Sox Place for what it is, Jesus’s work. To love without condition; to be a listening ear, a helping hand, caring eyes, giving heart, heal with words, or just a smile.

To give comfort in choice to heal. That’s Sox place.
